EVENTS Join Healthcare for the 99% to protest Pfizer and its corporate and political allies on Wednesday, February 29th at 10 AM!
From Occupy Wall Street: On Wednesday, February 29 Occupy Wall Street will join in a national day of action to protest corporate greed and corruption, and raise awareness about the destructive political activities of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).
In particular, we will focus our efforts on the following ALEC members: Bank of America (regional headquarters at 42nd St. / 6th Ave.) and Pfizer, Inc. (corporate headquarters at 42nd St. / 2nd Ave.).
Multinational corporations (such as Exxonmobil, Wal-Mart, and Monsanto, among others) have leveraged their financial resources against the American people by influencing state politics in their own self interest. For the past 40 years, ALEC has introduced dangerous and deceptive legislation across the country. This organization has advocated for–and successfully implemented– a broad range of policies that harm human interests: environmental destruction, union busting, state budget cuts, corporate tax loopholes, deportation of immigrants, and the development of the private prison industry, to name a few.
As part of an energetic effort to reclaim our voices, we’ve planned the following activities for Wednesday, February 29, 2012:
+9:00am-1:00pm :: ”Pop-up” occupation in Bryant Park (42nd St. / 6th Ave.) +10:00am-11:00am :: Assemble and rally for Pfizer action @ E.42nd St and 1st Ave (Robert Moses Playground) +11:00am-12:00pm :: Assemble and rally @ Bryant Park (42nd St. / 6th Ave.) +12:00pm-1:00pm :: Roving ”tour” of Bank of America branch locations in mid-town Manhattan and March to demonstrate outside of the Bank of America Tower (42nd St. / 6th Ave.)
We are working to organize creative, fun, and media-savvy actions to call attention to these corporate giants and their shadowy legislative organization, and will debut a number of ”Plus Brigades” to bring a positive and affirmative message to our action. All of these activities will be coordinated nationally as part of Shutdown the Corporations (www.shutdownthecorporations.org).
